Interview with E. C. Jackson, Author of 'The Certain Hope'

May 6, 2019

I was privileged to invite E. C. Jackson for an interview with BooKecCenTric to discuss her latest book and the inspiration behind it. Enjoy!

*********

Thank you @ECJackson for your time today. What's your book about, and what inspired you to write it?
@ECJackson: The Certain Hope is about rising above devastation to achieve a fruitful life. I wrote this book because too many people fall into despair when faced with unpreventable situations and heartbreak.

Who is your target audience, and why do you think this book will appeal to them?
@ECJackson: Life isn’t easy. So the target audience is any person who experiences the ups and downs of living in a fallen world. The goal is to inspire others to trust God in spite of sorrow. Regardless of circumstances, Jesus is always the answer. He who promised is faithful in every situation.

What message do you wish to pass across to your readers with this book?
@ECJackson: Scriptures say that against all hope, Abraham still believed God’s promise. We also should trust God and never give up.

What was the hardest thing about writing your latest book?
@ECJackson: To make the message in the book my own and live a lifestyle of hope and moving forward in victory.

As a writer, is there anything you've learned about yourself while writing this book?
@ECJackson: Sometimes I am moved by what I see, feel, and hear. Day by day I’m learning to have tunnel vision when making life decisions. Choosing correctly in every issue of life is my goal.

For your own reading, do you prefer ebooks or traditional paper/hard back books, and why?
@ECJackson: I prefer reading hardback and paperback books simply because I grew up reading them. However, I usually buy ebooks due to cost and availability.

What is your niche genre, and if you were to write in a different genre, what would it be?
@ECJackson: Inspirational romance is my preference, but I also write YA books. If I branched out from the norm, I would write my favorite genre to read: regency romance.

What books and authors have most influenced you?
@ECJackson: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and Miss Marple books by Agatha Christie.

Is there anything you'd like readers to know about you?
@ECJackson: I love penning stories, and I often wonder why I waited so long to pursue a lifelong dream.

Do you have any more books in the works?
@ECJackson: Book Four of the five-book standalone hope-themed series is due out this fall. After that, I plan to write companion books for my one YA book, Pajama Party: The Story. And then I’ll collaborate on a women’s fiction book with one of my editors.

Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones?
@ECJackson: I read each review that’s given. Growth is essential in every endeavor, including writing. Of course, I applaud every good review and accept positive feedback without a qualm. They validate months of sacrifice and hard work. However, the reason behind a bad review helps me decide the proper response. I move on if the book they describe doesn’t resemble the book I wrote, or when they admit to not liking the genre.

What is your preferred method to have readers get in touch with or follow you (i.e., website, personal blog, Facebook page, Goodreads, etc.)?
@ECJackson: I have a social media presence via my website, as well as with an author page on Goodreads, Facebook, and Amazon. Also, I do tweet. Readers can choose their preference in contacting me.

Any additional comments you would like to add?
@ECJackson: “The Write Way: A Real Slice of Life” is the slogan on my website and Facebook author page. If every person reading my book feels connected to the characters, my job is done.
